Beautiful
Created for luxury. Our material is lightweight with a smooth, premium touch. We can adapt and customise the aesthetic of our material to match your requirements, from the simplest of textures to the exotic, the possibilities are endless.
Durable
Our material scientists have developed an innovative formula that meets global ISO standards for strength, abrasion resistance, flexibility and colour fastness. We want to see your products in use at their highest value for as long as possible. Contact us for a spec sheet.
Circular
10% of our ingredients are upcycled from textiles and cellulose destined for landfill or incineration. 100% of our ingredients are derived from regenerative plants available in abundance globally. Designed with end-of-life in mind, we are currently testing the degradability and recyclability of our material.
Scalable tech
Cellulose is the most abundant biopolymer on earth making it a sustainable textile solution.
Every ingredient we choose is carefully considered to ensure that we are tapping into regenerative and abundant resources globally. Polysaccharides like cellulose and starches, recycled and natural fibres, and plant-derived resins are all part of our solution. We have screened thousands of plant-based ingredient combinations to develop our world-first technology.
Application
Limitless opportunities

Leadership
Tina Funder, Founder & CEO
An award-winning creative director with decades of global advertising experience, Tina is a natural problem solver with expertise in building successful teams to bring exceptional projects to life, including the plant-based leather handbag label LOM Australia.
Through end-to-end delivery of the handbag label, Tina identified gaps in the market for a petroleum plastic-free leather alternative. This triggered the quest to develop an ethical, Australian-made material that ticks all boxes for product designers worldwide. With access to Australia’s rich agricultural landscape and world-class research institutes, Alt. Leather was born.
Dr. Duc Le
Duc is a material engineer who brings with him three years of quality assurance working for Panasonic in Vietnam, and most recently two years at Deakin University’s Institute of Frontier Materials, Carbon Nexus where he was responsible for researching and developing the best method for dissolving plant-based biopolymers (cellulose, lignin) to form carbon fibre.
Duc is passionate about bringing world-class materials to the real world and is excited to apply his experience to the research and development team at Alt. Leather.
Dr. Tuan Nguyen, Chief Scientific Officer
Tuan is a highly qualified material scientist with decades of global experience designing and synthesising polymeric materials, including as a postdoctoral fellow at CSIRO, Australia with the polymer chemistry team in the biomanufacturing department.
Tuan also held a lead research and development role at a Vietnamese start-up where he was responsible for a team developing 3D printed products across multiple verticals, synthetic leathers and elastic materials. Tuan has witnessed first-hand the damage that the PVC and PU synthetic manufacturing processes can have on the health of people and our planet, his interest in creating sustainable biomaterials led him to Alt. Leather.
